FIRM HISTORY
Optima Fund Management ("Optima"), an SEC-registered
Investment Adviser, was founded by D. Dixon Boardman in 1988 in response to the
1987 market crash. As an advisor, Mr. Boardman sought investment solutions for his
clients that would provide what he viewed as substantial downside protection as
well as significant upside participation in all market environments. As a result,
the firm's first product, The Optima Fund, a long/short equity fund of funds, was
launched in July 1988. Since then, the firm has steadily added staff, investment
programs and assets under management. Optima manages over $4.5 billion and employs
over 50 full-time professionals at year end 2008.
In June 2000, the firm formed
a strategic alliance with BNY Mellon Wealth Management. Currently, Optima is an
independent firm owned approximately 75% by its employees, 15% by Mellon Global
Investing Corp. and approximately 10% by a private investor.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
Capturing the unique risk-return and cross-correlation characteristics
of alternative investment strategies, Optima seeks to construct multi-manager hedge
fund programs designed to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns with significant
downside protection and low correlation to equity and fixed income markets.
Optima emphasizes the pursuit of measured asset growth consistent
with internal resources and the availability of quality hedge fund capacity.
